7/19/2015 · I’m still sore over this one. When I got my headgasket replaced the machine shop at Carquest said I needed a valve job. I have about 190k so I said sure, go ahead. Let me tell you how they adjust the vavles. Any loose valves they just ignore. Any tight valves they grind the valve stem instead of tracking down the correct shim.
1/16/2021 · Ive monkeyed around with valves a few times, made mistakes, re-done etc etc. Always remember slightly loose is better than over tight. Determining what “slight drag” is on the gages is art vs science. The way I do it now is to use a stethoscope and listen to the valves before I adjust .
